Al Lewis

Al Lewis (April 30, 1923 – February 3, 2006), the beloved American actor forever associated with his iconic role as Grandpa Munster on the classic television series The Munsters. With his wild hair, gravelly voice, and mischievous charm, Lewis created a character that became a cornerstone of pop culture and a source of laughter for generations.

Beyond television, Al Lewis lived a life as colorful as the characters he portrayed. He was deeply involved in activism, community causes, and social justice, never hesitating to use his public voice to stand up for working people and issues he believed in. His passion for fairness and humanity defined him as much as his on-screen performances.

Al Lewis passed away peacefully on February 3, 2006, in New York City at the age of 82, following a period of declining health. He was cremated, and his ashes were given to family or friends—placed in his favorite cigar box, a fittingly personal farewell. His final resting association is remembered in Roosevelt Island, New York County, New York, USA.

Al Lewis leaves behind a legacy of humor, heart, and individuality—proof that joy, kindness, and a touch of eccentricity can truly live forever.
