The Who-Can-Eat-What Laws

 The Who-Can-Eat-What Laws

In 1517 the Sumptuary Laws on feasting were passed, setting out the numbers of courses different ranks were permitted to eat during one meal.

Cardinals were allowed nine, Dukes and bishops seven, while those without a title but with a anual income of between 40 and 100 pounds could ask for no more than three.
