"THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES" (1946)
MY THOUGHTS ... I can't begin to tell you all how much I love this movie! In my humble opinion, it is one of THE BEST movies ever made! Truly. With 3 intersecting story lines: each one representing a "type" of soldier and their individual struggles when they come home from the war. It has a very talented ensemble cast and garnered much praise from audience members and critics alike!
SYNOPSIS: Three World War II veterans, two of them traumatized or disabled, return home to the American Midwest to discover that they and their families have been irreparably changed.
STARRING: Myrna Loy, Dana Andrews, Fredric March, Teresa Wright, Virginia Mayo, Cathy O'Donnell, Hoagy Carmichael, Harold Russell and Ray Collins.

ACADEMY AWARDS: Nominated for 9 Academy Awards and won 7 for: "Best Picture," "Best Actor in a Leading Role" (Fredric March), "Best Actor in a Supporting Role" (Harold Russell), "Director" (William Wyler), "Best Writing - Screenplay" (Robert E. Sherwood), "Best Sound - Recording" (Gordon Sawyer), "Best Film Editing" (Daniel Mandell), "Best Music - Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture" (Hugo Friedhofer). There was also an Honorary Award, which was given to Harold Russell for: "For bringing hope and courage to his fellow veterans, through his appearance in "The Best Years of Our Lives."
OTHER AWARDS: Nominated for 14 additional awards, from various entities, and won 10 of them. In 1989 it was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry at The Library of Congress.
