Audrey Young
Audrey Young (October 30, 1922- June 1, 2012)She was an actress, known for Love Me or Leave Me (1955), The Wistful Widow of Wagon Gap (1947) and Follow That Woman (1945). She was married to Billy Wilder from 1949 until his death in 2002. She met Wilder in 1944 on the Paramount Studios set of The Lost Weekend, which would win him the first of two Oscars for best director. Her other film roles included Blue Skies, Lady in the Dark, Duffy’s Tavern, The Stork Club, Danger Street, and a cameo opposite Gary Cooper in Wilder’s Love in the Afternoon. Young later was a costume consultant on Wilder’s best picture Oscar winner The Apartment and Some Like It Hot, for which Orry-Kelly won the costume design Academy Award. After her husband’s death, she donated $5 million to found the Billy Wilder Theater at the Hammer Museum in Westwood. She died on June 1, 2012 at age 89, and is interred with Wilder at Westwood Memorial Park.
