Some babies don’t let you put them down

Some babies don’t let you put them down.

Not because you’re doing it wrong.
Not because you’re spoiling them.
But because they came here with an assignment.

I saw a quote that said the babies who don’t want to be put down are born to the mamas who need to slow down.

And that hit somewhere deep.

Because maybe it’s not about “bad habits.”
Maybe it’s about interruption.
Sacred interruption.

The emails can wait.
The laundry can sit.
The world can spin without you for a minute.

But this tiny human who only knows your heartbeat?
They won’t always fit right there on your chest.
They won’t always curl their body to yours like you’re the only safe place in existence.

One day they will squirm to get down.
One day they will run ahead.
One day they won’t need your arms to regulate their nervous system.

So if you’re stuck on the couch with a baby who refuses to be put down, and you feel behind on everything else…

Maybe you’re not behind.

Maybe you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.

Slowed down.
Softened.
Reminded that presence is more important than productivity.

Hold them.

The to do list will still be there tomorrow.

This version of them will not.
