Did you know it’s actually common for babies to sleep with their eyes open?

Did you know it’s actually common for babies to sleep with their eyes open?

The first time you see it, it will absolutely send you into a quiet spiral.

You’ll lean in.
You’ll wave your hand.
You’ll whisper their name.
You’ll Google it at 2:17am.

And then you’ll realize… they’re fully asleep.

Some babies don’t completely close their eyelids when they drift off. Sometimes it’s just a tiny slit. Sometimes you can see a little bit of white. It looks dramatic. It looks unsettling.

It’s usually completely normal.

Their nervous systems are still maturing. Their little muscles are still figuring out how to coordinate. Deep sleep can look weird in babies. Twitches. Startle reflexes. Half-open eyes. Noisy breathing. Random smiles.

Motherhood is basically a constant cycle of
“Is this normal?”
“Oh. It’s normal.”

If your baby is peaceful, breathing steadily, feeding well, and growing, those half-open sleepy eyes are usually just another reminder that they are still brand new to this world.

No one prepares you for how many times you’ll stare at your child just to make sure they’re okay.

And no one talks about how that watching…
That checking…
That hyper-awareness…

Is love in its rawest form.

You’re not dramatic.
You’re not anxious.
You’re a mom.

And your nervous system is wired to protect them.
