Raymond Burr


  Raymond Burr (1917–1993), born Raymond William Stacey Burr, a legendary actor whose commanding presence made him a household name. Burr achieved iconic status through his title roles in Perry Mason and Ironside, earning two Emmy Awards for Perry Mason in 1959 and 1961, and six Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe nominations for Ironside. His versatile career also included memorable roles in films such as Godzilla, King of the Monsters!, Godzilla 1985, and Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window. In 1987, Burr hosted the television special that became the pilot for the long-running series Unsolved Mysteries.

Beyond acting, Burr was a committed philanthropist, donating substantial sums to charity, sharing his wealth with friends, and sponsoring 26 foster children, many with severe medical needs. His generosity reflected the compassion behind his public persona.

Burr passed away on September 12, 1993, at his Sonoma County home, after battling cancer that had spread to his liver. He is interred at Fraser Cemetery in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, leaving a legacy of talent, generosity, and enduring impact on television and film.
