1932 Wansford England

ArcHaus (former Wansford Knight then Little Chef)
Wansford (Peterborough), England
Completed 1932/renovated 2013-2015
Architect Davies & Knight Architects (original)/Harris McCormack Architects (restoration)
Situated on the northbound side of the arterial A1, the building originally functioned as one of six former ‘Knights on the Road’ roadhouses. In 1936 it became the New Mermaid Inn, and in the early 1970s the premises was acquired by the now-defunct Little Chef restaurant chain (part of Trust House Forte) and rebranded as such. Little Chef vacated the building in 2007 and it fell into a state of disrepair.
Harris McCormack Architects purchased the property in 2013 and sympathetically restored it. The ground floor was turned into a Ducati motorcycle showroom and the architectural firm used the upper level as their office. Ducati moved out in October 2020 and the building is now solely occupied by Harris McCormack Architects.
