Leslie Howard as Ashley Wilkes

 Leslie Howard as Ashley Wilkes

This publicity portrait captures exactly who Ashley is gentle, refined, and already halfway lost to a world that’s disappearing.

Ashley was never meant for the harshness of the new South. He belonged to poetry, tradition, and a life that was fading even as the story began. That’s why he always feels distant… not cold, not cruel, just out of time.

Leslie Howard played him with such quiet sadness. You can see it right here in his eyes, a man who survived the war, but not the world that came after it.

Scarlett loved a dream.
Melanie loved the man.
And Ashley? He was always trying to live in yesterday.
