You were so tired

 You were so tired.

I saw it in your eyes, even as you tried to be brave—for me.
So I did the only thing my heart knew how to do…
I stayed.

I stayed as your heartbeat softened,
I stayed as the room went still,
I stayed when the goodbye felt impossible to say.
I held you against me,
pressed my face into your fur like I had so many times before,
and whispered the only truth that mattered:
“You were loved. You mattered. You are not alone.”

People think letting go is weakness—
but they don’t see the strength it takes
to choose their comfort over your own pain.
This table was never meant to be our final moment,
but it became the place where I offered you the last gift I could:
a gentle, peaceful farewell.
With love. With presence. With every fragile piece of my heart.

Now, as I move through each room, I still find you—
in the warm sunspots you claimed,
in the quiet that lingers at the door,
in the spaces where love once curled up to rest.

To anyone who’s faced this same goodbye:
You did not fail them.
You gave them comfort. You gave them dignity.
You gave them everything.

And if they could speak one more time,
they’d say it softly back:
“Thank you for staying.”
