Today I glanced up at the sky
Today I glanced up at the sky,
And there it was — a quiet pawprint drifting high.So soft, so faint, yet somehow sure,
And for a moment, all I felt was you.
The clouds had opened just enough
To show a sign from somewhere far above.
No voice, no rumble, nothing loud —
Just your memory resting in the cloud.
I whispered, “Is that you, my friend?”
As tears moved close without my permission.
The sky stayed steady, calm, and blue,
But my heart swore you’d spoken through.
I told you how I miss your face,
Your joyful steps, your gentle grace.
How different all the mornings are —
No happy bark, no paws nearby.
Do you remember that final night?
Your eyes were warm, your grip so light.
I begged for time that wouldn’t stay,
It took your body, not your way.
Now every cloud that drifts above,
I watch for hints of you with love.
And when I see a shape so small —
A muted print, a tender paw —
I pause, I breathe, I close my eyes,
And talk to you beneath the skies.
“I miss you more than I can say.
I hope you hear me, feel me, stay.
The house is quiet, your leash unchanged,
But in my heart, you still remain.
So visit me in dreams tonight,
Run through my thoughts, bring back your light.
I’ll keep on searching skies so wide,
Until I feel you by my side.”
