Phelps Tavern
The Phelps Tavern in Simsbury, Connecticut, in 1926 and 2016. The house was built in 1771 as the home of Elisha Phelps. Several years later, he participated in the capture of Fort Ticonderoga during the American Revolution, and he served as a captain in the Continental Army until his death during the war in 1776. His brother Noah later puchased the house, and it remained in the family for many generations. During the 1800s it was also used as a tavern for traffic on the nearby Farmington Canal. It was eventually donated to the Simsbury Historical Society in 1962, and it has been restored and preserved as a museum.
