Bewitched' Star Elizabeth Montgomery

Bewitched' Star Elizabeth Montgomery And Her Final, Darker '90s TV Roles Before Her Tragic Death

It's been thirty years since the devastating demise of adored Bewitched star Elizabeth Montgomery. The multi-Emmy-nominated actress died tragically on May 18, 1995, from colorectal cancer. Had she lived, the daughter of screen legend Robert Montgomery and Broadway actress Elizabeth Bryan Allen would have turned 92 on April 15, 2025.
Before, during, and after she played twitch-witch Samantha Stephens on Bewitched (ABC, 1964–1972), Elizabeth Montgomery made over 200 stage, movie, and TV appearances.
Each production was different than the other, including a long list of acclaimed TV-movies, post-Bewitched, in the 1970s, '80s, and '90s.
Most of Montgomery's movies were dramas, a conscious effort by the actress to stretch her theatrical muscles beyond Bewitched.
In the 1970s, Montgomery appeared in small-screen films like The Victim, A Case of Rape, and The Legend of Lizzie Borden.
In the 1980s, she was seen in TV flicks such as The Rules of Marriage, Missing Pieces, and Amos.
