Tower of London
Although the Tower of London was a functional castle with all the uses that come with being a castle, it is most associated with death, torture and b-heading. Henry VIII in particular made good use of the Tower, most people who entered through Traitors' Gate never left alive. The Tower’s first recorded prisoner was Ranulf Flambard, Bishop of Durham, who was convicted of extortion in 1100. He managed to escape the castle by climbing down a rope that had been smuggled into him in a wine casket. At one time or another the Tower of London has been a:
