LIBELED LADY

 "LIBELED LADY" --- (1936) --

MY THOUGHTS: I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! The actors all did a terrific job. It is nice seeing William Powell and Myrna Loy together, in something other than a "Thin Man" movie. This was, in fact, the 5th of 14 films they did together. The pace is quick and there is a lot to be amused by. No wonder it is considered a "classic!"
SYNOPSIS: "When a major newspaper accuses wealthy socialite Connie Allenbury of being a home-wrecker, and she files a multi-million-dollar libel lawsuit, the publication's frazzled head editor, Warren Haggerty, must find a way to turn the tables on her. Soon Haggerty's harried fiancĆ©e, Gladys Benton, and his dashing friend Bill Chandler are in on a scheme that aims to discredit Connie, with amusing and unexpected results..
STARRING: Jean Harlowe, William Powell, Myrna Loy and Spencer Tracy, Waltr Connolly and Bunny Beatty.
SCREENPLAY BY: George Oppenheimer, Howard Emmett Rogers, Wallace Sullivan, and Maurine Dallas Watkins.
DIRECTED BY: Jack Conway
AWARDS & HONORS:
Nominated for one (1) Academy Awards and lost.
