Amalie Auguste of Bavaria
Amalie Auguste of Bavaria, Queen of Saxony, 13 November 1801–8 November 1877, was the fourth child of King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria and his second wife Caroline and an identical twin sister to Elisabeth Louise, later Queen of Prussia. On November 21, 1822, Amalie married Prince John of Saxony, who would later become King of Saxony between 1854 and 1873. In 1851, she became the chairwoman of the Women's Association of Dresden, which was one of the first initiatives to protect women and their children from violence and to offer them support and aid. She reorganised the association and established a legal basis for it that ran up until 1932.
