Police Woman
March 29, 1978, the final episode of Police Woman aired on NBC, concluding its four-season run that began on September 13, 1974.
The series starred Angie Dickinson as Sgt. “Pepper” Anderson, an undercover officer in the LAPD’s Criminal Conspiracy Unit. Alongside her were Earl Holliman as her superior Bill Crowley, with Charles Dierkop and Ed Bernard rounding out the investigative team. The show followed Pepper as she assumed a wide range of undercover identities—from nurse to nightclub dancer—to infiltrate criminal operations and solve cases.
Police Woman broke ground as one of the first successful TV dramas centered on a female police officer, helping pave the way for future women-led crime series. The character originated in an episode of Police Story, though her name evolved before the series settled on “Pepper” Anderson.
The show’s popularity was notable—even Gerald Ford was said to be a fan, once rescheduling a press conference so as not to conflict with an episode.
