Double Trouble

March 30, 1985, the final episode of the NBC sitcom Double Trouble aired.

The series starred real-life twin sisters Jean Sagal and Liz Sagal as Kate and Allison Foster, teenagers navigating life under the care of their widowed father. Built around a familiar “twins in mischief” premise in the tradition of The Parent Trap and The Patty Duke Show, the sitcom leaned on contrast-driven humor, with one twin portrayed as more serious and the other more carefree.

Originally set in Des Moines, Iowa, the show often revolved around school life and their father’s dance studio, showcasing the Sagal sisters’ real-life dance background. After a midseason cancellation and later retooling, the series relocated to New York City and underwent cast changes, including Barbara Barrie joining in a key supporting role.

Despite returning for a second run, the series was not renewed beyond its second season, though it continued in reruns on NBC and later on cable syndication.
