Dunnottar Castle
Dunnottar Castle, the most beautiful castle in Scotland.
Not far from the coastal village of Stonehaven, on the east coast of Scotland, the castle stands on a small rocky promontory connected to the land only by a narrow passage and surrounded by the cold waters of the North Sea.
The name Dunnottar derives from the Pictish word "Dun" meaning fortress or place of resistance.
The site where the castle stands was inhabited since ancient times by the pre-Celtic population of the Picts, even if the exact date is not known with precision.
Today it is owned by the family of Weetman Pearson, who oversaw the renovation and then opened it to visitors.
