Bewitched
A great behind the scenes look at Bewitched, these blueprints show the layout of Samantha and Darrin Stephens’ familiar suburban home, where much of the series’ action took place. The house set, with its living room, staircase, and kitchen, became one of the most recognizable interiors on television during the 1960s. It was part of Screen Gems’ stock set inventory, which meant it could be reused and redressed for other productions.
In fact, variations of the same house set were used in other Screen Gems series, most notably I Dream of Jeannie and The Partridge Family, with different décor and layout adjustments to fit each show’s needs. This kind of reuse was common in television production at the time and helped studios save both time and money.
The misspelling of the Stephens name on the blueprint is simply a small oversight, but the real interest here is seeing how this well known television home was designed and adapted for use on screen.
