Be gentle for them
Be gentle for them.
For the ones who cannot tell us they are hurting. For the ones who spend their whole lives giving love without ever asking for anything in return.
They hide their pain so well.
They still wag their tails when their bodies are tired.
They still come close when their hearts are heavy.
They still look at us with the same eyes that have trusted us from the very beginning.
We often think we have more time.
One more walk tomorrow.
One more game later.
One more moment when life slows down enough for us to notice.
But they don't measure love in years.
They measure it in moments.
The hand that reaches for them.
The voice that says their name.
The patience we give when their steps become slower.
The kindness we show when they need us most.
They spend their entire lives being gentle with our hearts.
The least we can do is be gentle with theirs.
Sit beside them a little longer.
Notice the gray appearing in their fur.
Listen to the stories their eyes are telling.
Let them stop and sniff every flower.
Let the walk take as long as they need.
Because one day...
the leash will hang quietly.
The bowl will sit untouched.
The house will feel different.
And you will wish you could return to one ordinary moment just to hold them a little closer.
I know that pain.
The silence after goodbye feels too big.
You search for them in familiar places.
You still expect the sound of their paws.
You still turn around hoping to see them waiting.
But then I remember...
I gave them what they needed most.
Love.
Comfort.
A safe place to be.
And that is the greatest gift we can give.
I believe our gentle ones are somewhere beautiful now.
Running freely through endless meadows.
Their bodies young again.
Their hearts light again.
Waiting beneath the glow of the Rainbow Bridge.
And maybe they remember every single gentle moment we gave them.
Every soft touch.
Every whispered "I love you."
Every time we chose them.
So today...
Be gentle for them.
Love them while their paws are still beside you.
Because one day, those little paws become memories...
and those memories become the places where we find them again.
