CABIN IN THE SKY
"CABIN IN THE SKY" (1943) MY THOUGHTS:
The first time I watched this movie I was about 10 years old. I was immediately taken in by all of the "magic" involved in the telling of the story. I also loved that it was a musical! It would be a few years before I knew how "famous" the cast was, in their own right, and outside of the film. I also learned how significant this movie was, being the "first all-black musical" and directed by Vincente Minelli. Re-watching it today was a total treat for my senses and brought back many memories. Racial stereotypes are impossible to ignore – but so are its irresistible musical numbers and brilliantly talented cast. It is a great movie and I highly recommend it!
