"APOCALYPSE NOW" (1979) SYNOPSIS:
"In Vietnam in 1970, Captain Willard takes a perilous and increasingly hallucinatory journey upriver to find and terminate Colonel Kurtz, a once-promising officer who has reportedly gone completely mad. In the company of a Navy patrol boat filled with street-smart kids, a surfing-obsessed Air Cavalry officer, and a crazed freelance photographer, Willard travels further and further into the heart of darkness."

SCREENPLAY:
Co-written by Francis Ford Coppola, John Milius and Michael Herr. It is loosely based on the 1899 novella "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad, with the setting changed from late 19th-century Congo to the Vietnam War.

It was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won two (2) of them for: "Best Cinematography" (Vittorio Storaro) and "Best Sound" (Walter Murch, Mark Berger, Richard Beggs and Nat Boxer).
It was nominated for twenty-one (21) additional awards, from various entities, and won nine (9) of them.
