*When Piper Laurie first started her acting career, she struggled to land roles due to her unconventional looks. She was often cast in supporting roles as the “bad girl” or the outsider.
*Her first credited movie was Louisa (1950), along Ronald Reagan, whom she dated a few times before his marriage to Nancy Davis.Reagan was in his 40s, while Laurie was still in her teen.In the movie, Reagan plays her father.Piper claimed that she lost her virginity to him.
*In her early career, to enhance her image, Universal Studios told gossip columnists that Laurie bathed in milk and ate flower petals to protect her luminous skin.She told, "They invited someone from the press to sit with me in the commissary. The cook prepared this elaborate plate with all sorts of flowers and plants. I ate them! I thought that’s what they were paying me to do. They certainly weren’t giving me acting parts … I went through about five contracts during the first year."
*Piper Laurie and Tony Curtis starring together in four films: The Prince Who Was a Thief (1951), No Room for The Groom (1952), Son of Alibaba (1951), and Johnny Dark (1954).
*Good friend with Rock Hudson, her co-star in comedy movie Has Anybody Seen My Gal (1952). They shared moment did first screen test together at Universal. Hudson also used to come to her apartment and eat meals that her mother would cook. When she think of Rock Hudson, his laughter comes to mind.
* She played as Paul Newman's girlfriend, Sarah Packard in film The Hustler (1961).For her performance, she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.She become friend with Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward during shooting. At first, she was a little intimidated by his looks, "I was really confronted with that beauty, those spectacular eyes". The cast had two full weeks of rehearsal, and on the first day of script table work, Laurie said she found it hard to look at him. She soon got over that, however, and found him extremely easy to work with and to be around.
*Laurie did not appear in another feature film after The Hustler (1961) until she accepted the role of religious fanatic Margaret White in the horror film Carrie (1976). She received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.Her co-star Sissy Spacek praised her acting skill: "She is a remarkable actress. She never does what you expect her to do—she always surprises you with her approach to a scene."
