Bud Spencer

Today we honor the life and legacy of Bud Spencer (born Carlo Pedersoli, October 31, 1929 – June 27, 2016), an Italian cinematic icon whose larger-than-life presence, humor, and charisma captivated audiences worldwide. A former competitive swimmer and water polo champion, Spencer transitioned from sports to film in the 1950s, eventually becoming a beloved actor and filmmaker known for his action-comedy roles.

Spencer is best remembered for his legendary partnership with Terence Hill, with whom he starred in and produced more than 20 films, including God Forgives… I Don’t! (1967), They Call Me Trinity (1970), Trinity Is Still My Name (1971), Crime Busters (1976), and Who Finds a Friend Finds a Treasure (1981). His effortless blend of humor, toughness, and charm made these films international favorites, endearing him to generations of fans.

Beyond acting, Spencer composed music, directed, and authored autobiographies that shared insights into his personal and professional life. His early accomplishments in swimming remain historic: he was the first Italian to swim the 100 m freestyle in under one minute and represented Italy in two Olympic Games.

Bud Spencer passed away at the age of 86 in Rome and was laid to rest at Cimitero Comunale Monumentale Campo Verano. His legacy continues through tributes like his bronze statue in Budapest, the Bud Spencer Museum in Berlin, and the enduring popularity of his films.
