The Cliffs

It's not in New England, but this is one of the eeriest then-and-now photos that I have ever done, showing the living room of The Cliffs, a historic home in Philadelphia. It was built in 1753 as the summer residence of a wealthy merchant, but it was later acquired by the city and was destroyed by arson in 1986. Today, only the masonry shell survives, overgrown with weeds and covered in graffiti. Historic image taken in 1932, courtesy of the Library of Congress.
