Twin Peaks
April 8, 1990, the first episode of Twin Peaks premiered on ABC. Created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, the series follows an investigation led by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) into the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) in a small fictional Washington town. The groundbreaking drama became one of the top-rated and most talked-about shows of 1990, earning critical acclaim and developing a devoted cult following. Blending mystery, surrealism, and dark humor, Twin Peaks pushed the boundaries of television storytelling, influencing countless series that followed. Declining ratings in its second season led the network to reveal Laura Palmer’s killer earlier than planned, and the show ended its original run on June 10, 1991.
The series was later followed by the 1992 prequel film Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me, and its legacy continued with a revival on Showtime in 2017, bringing back many original cast members and creators.
