The strangest part of losing you
The strangest part of losing you is that the world kept going.
The sun still rises. The birds still sing.
People still laugh.
Life still moves forward.
And somehow...
So do I.
But there are days when I feel both things at once.
Empty.
And alive.
The emptiness arrived the moment you left.
It settled into the spaces you once filled so effortlessly.
The spot beside the couch.
The place near the door where you waited for me.
The quiet corners where your toys used to be scattered like little reminders of joy.
No matter how much time passes, I still notice those spaces.
I still feel them.
Because love leaves an outline behind.
A shape that never quite disappears.
For a while, I thought that emptiness meant something was broken inside me.
That maybe I would never feel whole again.
But grief has taught me something different.
An empty place is not always a dead place.
Sometimes it is a sacred place.
A place where love once lived so fully that its absence can still be felt.
And somehow, that makes it beautiful.
Because the emptiness exists only because you mattered.
Only because you were loved.
Only because a piece of my heart was forever changed by knowing you.
There are mornings when I wake up and miss you before my eyes are even open.
And there are evenings when a memory of you suddenly appears and makes me smile through tears.
Both things can be true.
I can ache for you and still be grateful.
I can miss you and still keep living.
I can carry sadness and joy in the same heart.
That's what healing looks like, I think.
Not forgetting.
Not moving on.
But learning how to carry love differently.
Sometimes, when the sky turns soft gold and the world becomes quiet, I imagine you beyond the Rainbow Bridge.
Running through endless meadows.
Your tail wagging freely.
Your eyes bright with happiness.
No pain.
No fear.
No final goodbyes.
Just peace.
Just love.
Just home.
And when I picture you there, something inside me softens.
The emptiness remains.
But it no longer feels lonely.
Because I know what fills it.
You.
Your memories.
Your loyalty.
Your gentle spirit.
Your unconditional love.
The space you left behind is still empty.
But it is also alive.
Alive with every walk we shared.
Alive with every cuddle.
Alive with every moment that made us family.
So yes...
Part of my heart feels empty without you.
But that same heart is still beating because of you.
Still loving because of you.
Still carrying you forward with every step.
Empty.
Yet alive.
Broken.
Yet grateful.
Missing you.
Yet forever blessed to have been loved by you.
