High Stakes
"High Stakes" 1931 directed by Lowell Sherman, written by Willard Mack and J. Walter Ruben
Lowell Sherman, Mae Murray, Karen Morley, Edward Martindel, Leyland Hodgson,
Mae Murray's final film in which she plays a gold digger with Hodgson for Martindel's money. Although still beautiful, and with a gorgeous figure, she wouldn't pass for a 32-year-old woman pretending to be 22. Her cloying baby-talking is supposed to be annoying to us as it is to Lowell Sherman's character, who, by the way, slurs his speech to let on that he's been drinking. Too bad the circulating C & C Television print of this is murky.
