TOM SAWYER

 "TOM SAWYER" --- (1973) ---

MY THOUGHTS: This is a wonderful, musical adaption and family-friendly film of the story of Tom Sawyer. It has a great cast, which includes a young Jodie Foster, and is quite enjoyable. Kids are bound to like it as well (I know the young ones in my family do). It is well-worth a watch!
SCENARIO: "Best friends Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn spend their days in their small Mississippi hometown causing havoc and having fun wherever they go. When the young Becky Thatcher moves into town, it throws an unexpected wrench into their friendship. But when one of Tom's friends finds himself in a jam, all three kids come together to help solve the problem in this musical retelling of the classic Mark Twain story."
STARRING: Johnnie Whitaker, Jeff East, Jodie Foster, Warren Oates, Henry O'Brien, Joshua Hill Lewis, Celeste Holm, Susan Joyce and Noah Keen.
SCREENPLAY: Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman; Based on "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" - 1876 novel by Mark Twain.
DIRECTOR: Don Taylor
AWARDS & OTHER HONORS:
At the 31st Golden Globe Awards, the Sherman Brothers, along with John Williams, received a nomination for "Best Original Score."
The trio would later be nominated for an Academy Award for "Best Music, Scoring Original Song Score and/or Adaptation."
It also received Academy Award nominations for "Best Art Direction–Set Decoration" and "Best Costume Design."
