When a mom says she needs a break

When a mom says she needs a break, she’s not asking to go grocery shopping alone.

She’s not talking about cleaning the house without little hands “helping.”
She doesn’t mean running errands in peace.

And no, sending the kids to do something fun without her so she can stay back and catch up on chores isn’t the kind of break she’s craving either.

A shower by herself, where she can still hear the chaos outside the door, isn’t a break.
That’s just surviving.

We’ve been taught to be grateful for crumbs of rest and call it luxury.
But basic hygiene isn’t self-care, and help from our partner isn’t a favor.

She’s allowed to need more.
She deserves more.
Because making her life slightly easier isn’t the same as letting her breathe.
