St Michael's Mount was given to the Benedictine religious order of Mont Saint-Michel by Edward the Confessor in the 11th century. It's a tidal island that can be reached by a man made causeway between mid-tide and low water. The castle and chapel have been home of the St Aubyn family since about 1650. Today it's run by the National Trust. Joachim von Ribbentrop allegedly planned to live here after the planned German conquest of Britain.
