Healing is a choice

Healing is a choice and as a mom it’s one I make every single day.

I didn’t get the gentle start I deserved. I grew up learning to be tough, to keep my guard up, to protect myself from hurt that should have never been there in the first place. Those old wounds still ache sometimes. They remind me of just how much I needed softness back then.

But now I get to decide how this story goes. I get to choose how I show up for my kids. I choose kindness. I choose softness. I choose to be the safe place they can always come home to, the arms that never make them question if they’re loved.

It’s hard work breaking cycles. It’s painful to hold up a mirror and see what needs to heal. But it’s worth it every single time I see my kids living a childhood full of laughter and light, knowing they are safe exactly as they are.

So I will keep choosing healing. For them. For me. For the little girl inside me who never stopped hoping someone would finally show up with the love she needed. This is how it changes. This is how we all grow.
