Mieszko I
May 25, 992: Mieszko I, Duke of Poland, died in Poznań, aged approximately sixty-two. A member of the Piast dynasty, he was a son of the legendary Siemomysł and a grandson of Lestek. The first Christian ruler of territories later called Poland, he is considered the creator of the Polish state, using both alliances as well as military force to expand Poland's conquests. He was a wise politician, a talented military leader, and a charismatic ruler who successfully used diplomacy and concluded alliances. He was succeeded by his son Bolesław I the Brave, the first crowned King of Poland.
