Hotel Rwanda

"Hotel Rwanda" is a historical drama film released in 2004, directed by Terry George. It tells the true story of Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager in Rwanda, who bravely housed over a thousand Tutsi refugees during the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

During the genocide, which was sparked by long-standing ethnic tensions between the Hutu and Tutsi populations, an estimated 800,000 people were killed in just 100 days. In the midst of this violence, Rusesabagina used his influence and connections to shelter as many people as possible within the walls of the hotel he managed, the Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali.

The film portrays Rusesabagina's efforts to protect the refugees, negotiate with militia groups, and navigate the dangerous political landscape of Rwanda during the genocide. His actions are seen as heroic, as he risks his own life and the safety of his family to save others.

"Hotel Rwanda" received critical acclaim for its powerful storytelling, compelling performances, and its portrayal of the horrors of genocide. It also shed light on the international community's failure to intervene effectively during the Rwandan genocide. The film stars Don Cheadle as Paul Rusesabagina and Sophie Okonedo as his wife, Tatiana, and was nominated for multiple awards, including three Academy Awards.
