Peter Sallis, the beloved British actor best known for his iconic role as Norman Clegg in the BBC’s long-running comedy Last of the Summer Wine. From 1973 to 2010, Sallis was the only actor to appear in all 295 episodes, earning him a permanent place in the hearts of viewers.Beyond his television work, Sallis had a distinguished theatre career, performing alongside luminaries such as Orson Welles, Laurence Olivier, and Sir John Gielgud. He was also the voice of Wallace in the Wallace and Gromit animated series, earning the 2005 Annie Award for Best Voice Acting in an Animated Feature for Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Peter Sallis passed away at age 96 at Denville Hall, a retirement home for actors. Honoring his life and career, he was laid to rest at St. John the Evangelist Church, the filming location for Last of the Summer Wine, next to his longtime colleague Bill Owen. His legacy lives on in laughter, animation, and the memories of generations of fans.
