Steve Kanaly

Steve Kanaly portrayed Ray Krebbs, the tough ranch foreman on the iconic TV series Dallas. His character evolved from a casual fling with teenage Lucy Ewing to being revealed as the illegitimate son of patriarch Jock Ewing, adding major drama to the Ewing family saga. Kanaly stayed with the show from 1978 until 1989, returning for the 1991 finale and the 1998 reunion movie Dallas: War of the Ewings.

Role Highlights
Ray Krebbs started as J.R.'s loyal buddy but gained depth through his romance with Donna Culley and family secrets. Kanaly's performance made Ray one of the most beloved supporting characters, balancing grit with vulnerability amid the oil baron intrigues. He reprised the role in the 2012-2014 TNT reboot as well.

Background
A Vietnam War veteran, Kanaly broke into acting post-service with roles in films like The Sugarland Express and My Name Is Nobody before landing Dallas. In interviews, he shared stories of his gutsy audition, close bonds with stars like Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy, and on-set pranks. His real-life experiences even influenced Apocalypse Now.
