STILL OF THE NIGHT
"STILL OF THE NIGHT" (1982)
MY THOUGHTS: I had never seen this film before. I wasn't sure what to think when I saw that Meryl Streep had said in 2013 that it was "one of the worst movies" in which she had acted. Still, I watched it with an open mind. I thought it had many virtues. It was wonderfully acted and beautifully made. It did have some plot issues, and you couldn't overlook the obvious references to some of Hitchcock's masterpieces. But that doesn't make it a bad film or take away from it being enjoyable. There is a great deal to like about it!
SYNOPSIS: "When one of his patients is found murdered, psychiatrist Dr. Sam Rice is visited by the investigating officer but refuses to give up any information. He's then visited by the patient's mistress, Brooke Reynolds, whom he quickly falls for despite her being a likely murder suspect. As the police pressure on him intensifies, Rice decides to attempt solving the case on his own and soon discovers that someone is trying to kill him as well."
STARRING: Roy Scheider, Joe Grifasi, Meryl Streep, Jessica Tandy, Sara Botsford, Josef Sommer, Hyon Cho, Larry Joshua, Frederikke Borge and Randy Jurgensen.
SCREENPLAY: Robert Benton and David Newman (story)
DIRECTOR: Robert Benton
