From the outside, it looked simple

From the outside, it looked simple —

a person and their dog.
But anyone who’s ever loved the way we did
knows it was something deeper.
Something sacred.

You weren’t “mine.”
You were me —
the soft part of my spirit that wore fur,
walked on four legs,
and loved without hesitation.

You saw the best in me
when I couldn’t find it myself.
You forgave before I ever asked.
You listened without judgment,
and stayed without reason.

You were never just a pet.
You were a pulse that matched mine.
A soul that somehow found its way
into a different kind of body —
so we could walk this world together.

And now that you’re gone,
I still feel you.
Not like a memory,
but like a presence that hums through everything.
The air, the sunlight,
the quiet moments when my heart aches
and then… somehow… eases.

That’s you.
Still here.
Still mine.
Still love.

Because love that deep doesn’t end —
it just changes shape.
And when people ask if I’ll ever get another pet,
I smile softly and whisper,
“You don’t replace a soul.”
