David White

David White (May 23, 1916 – November 6, 1990) was an American stage and television actor with a career that encompassed more than 110 roles over four decades. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, White pursued his passion for acting with Broadway and touring stage productions, becoming a familiar face on American television by the late 1950s following a strong performance in the film "Sweet Smell of Success" (1957). Playing cads and pompous politicians became his strong suit, but he achieved his greatest fame as the unctuous, hovering boss Larry Tate on the iconic TV sitcom "Bewitched" (1964–1972)—the suspended, often befuddled supervisor of Darrin Stephens (Dick York/Dick Sargent) who constantly pressured Darrin for bigger commissions while remaining oblivious to his wife's magical identity as a witch. White played Larry Tate for 191 episodes over 8 seasons, making him one of television's most recognizable authority figures and the perfect straight man to Elizabeth Montgomery's Samantha. Beyond "Bewitched," White guest-starred on popular shows including "My Three Sons," "Perry Mason," "The Fugitive," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Kojak," "Rhoda," "Phyllis," and "Cagney & Lacey," with his final TV appearance on "Dynasty" in 1986. He also appeared in films like "The Apartment" (1960) and "Brewster's Millions" (1985), leaving behind a legacy as one of classic television's most beloved and dependable character actors who brought warmth, humor, and authenticity to every role.
