Honey West

April 8, 1966, the final episode of Honey West aired on ABC, concluding its single season run. The series originally premiered on September 17, 1965, as part of the 1965 to 1966 television season.

Based on the novels created by Gloria and Forrest E. “Skip” Fickling under the pseudonym G.G. Fickling, the show starred Anne Francis as glamorous private detective Honey West and John Ericson as her partner Sam Bolt. It was one of the first network television series built around a female lead character’s name, and is often described as groundbreaking for its portrayal of a strong, independent woman in a traditionally male dominated genre.

Honey West was introduced earlier in a second season episode of Burke's Law, which led to the spin off series. Stylish and ahead of its time, Honey drove a Shelby 289 Cobra convertible, practiced judo, carried inventive spy like gadgets, and even kept a pet ocelot named Bruce. The show blended crime drama with playful glamour, drawing comparisons to the British series The Avengers.

Thirty half hour episodes were produced. Though short lived, Honey West remains a cult favorite and an important milestone in television history for paving the way for future female led crime dramas.
