F Troop

April 6, 1967, the final episode of F Troop aired on ABC.

The satirical Western sitcom premiered on September 14, 1965, and ran for two seasons and 65 episodes. Set at a fictional U.S. Army outpost in the 1860s, the series followed the misadventures of an inept cavalry unit and the local Native American tribe, blending slapstick, visual gags, and broad parody. The first season was filmed in black-and-white, with the second season produced in color.

Created by Richard Bluel (with later credit awarded to Seaman Jacobs, Ed James, and Jim Barnett), the show featured a strong ensemble cast including Forrest Tucker, Larry Storch, Ken Berry, and Melody Patterson. Its humor often parodied both Old West tropes and contemporary 1960s culture, including playful nods to modern trends like rock music and social clubs.

Despite solid ratings—ranking in the Top 40 during its final season—the series was canceled after two years. Rising production costs, including the shift to color, and studio decisions by Warner Bros.’ then-owners contributed to its early end.

Today, F Troop remains a cult favorite, remembered for its offbeat humor and unique take on the Western genre.
