Susan Hayward
Susan Hayward.(June 30, 1917 – March 14, 1975). She won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in "I Want to Live" (1958) and was also nominated for her performances in: I'll Cry Tomorrow (1955), With a Song in My Heart (1952), My Foolish Heart (1949) and Smash-Up: The Story of a Woman (1947). She began her career as a fashiom model, traveling to Hollywood in 1937 to try out for the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind. Although she didn't get the part, she made a favorable impression on David O. Selznick. Shortly thereafter, she signed a contract with Warner Bros.
Susan Hayward continued to act through the early 1970s, including some television appearances. In March 1972, her doctor found a lung tumor that had metastasized. Following a seizure about one year later, she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Her last public appearance was at the Academy Awards in 1974 to present the Best Actress Oscar to Glenda Jackson (for A Touch of Class), despite being very ill. On March 14, 1975, when she was just 57 years old, the beautuful, talented Brooklyn born actress suffered a seizure and died in her Beverly Hills home. Her doctor Lee Siegel, said of her courage: "She had a tremendous desire to live. She was a terrific fighter."⚘️
Among critics and fans alike, Susan Hayward continues to rank as one of the finest actresses in film history. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6251 Hollywood Blvd. Filmography:
