Elissa Landi


 Elissa Landi, born 1904 in Venice, Italy studied acting in Oxford, England and she made her film debut in 1928 but after 8 movies over two years she came to the US and starred opposite Charles Farrell in "Body and Soul" in 1931 but the following year she was noticed by audiences in DeMille's "The Sign of the Cross" 1932. It lead to "A Passport to Hell" 1932, "Devil's Lottery" 1932, "The Warrior's Husband" 1933 and with Robert Donat in "The Count of Monte Cristo" 1934. She appeared in "After the Thin Man" 1936 and "Mad Holiday after which she was dissatisfied with her roles. In 1943, she left films for writing and summer stock. In 1948 she died of cancer at 43.
