It’s A Blast!

☞It’s A Blast!
☞History -- 135 years ago, Tuesday May 7, 1867, noted Victorian-Era Swedish chemist Alfred Bernhard Nobel (1833-1896) patented a new type of explosive of his own invention -- dynamite. After its introduction, dynamite rapidly gained wide-scale use as a safer alternative to black powder & nitroglycerin.
☞Nobel was a chemist, engineer, innovator, & armaments manufacturer who is most famous nowadays for establishing the Nobel Prizes.
☞Nobel held 350 different patents, with dynamite being his most famous. He used his vast fortune to posthumously institute the Nobel Prizes.
☞In 1957, the synthetic element nobelium, Atomic № 102, was named in honor of Alfred Nobel. His name also survives in modern-day companies such as Dynamit Nobel & Akzo Nobel, which are descendants of the companies that Nobel himself established.
☞The photograph depicts a 1915 oil-on-canvas portrait of Alfred Nobel by noted Swedish artist Emil Österman (1870-1917). This painting is now in the collection of the Nobel Foundation at Stockholm, Sweden.
