The 36th Academy Awards
The 36th Academy Awards, honoring the best in film for 1963, were held on April 13, 1964, hosted by Jack Lemmon at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, California.
The award for Best Picture went to "Tom Jones" over "America America", "Cleopatra", "How the West was Won", "Lilies of the Field".
Tony Richardson won Best Director for "Tom Jones" over Federico Fellini "8 1/2", Elia Kazan "America America", Otto Preminger "The Cardinal", Martin Ritt "Hud".
Patricia Neal won Best Actress for "Hud" over Leslie Caron "The L-Shaped Room", Shirley MacLaine "Irma la Douce", Rachel Roberts "This Sporting Life" Natalie Wood "Love with the Proper Stranger".
Melvyn Douglas won Best Supporting Actor for "Hud" over Nick Adams "Twilight of Honor", Bobby Darin "Captain Newman, M.D.", Hugh Griffith "Tom Jones", John Huston "The Cardinals".
Margaret Rutherford won Best Supporting Actress for "The V.I.P.s" over Diane Cilento "Tom Jones", Edith Evans "Tom Jones", Joyce Redman "Tom Jones", Lilia Skala "Lilies of the Field".
Gregory Peck, Annabella (accepting for Patricia Neal), Sidney Poitier, Anne Bancroft, Peter Ustinov accepted on behalf of Margaret Rutherford, but I could not find a photo of him and Melvyn Douglas as part of the four winners.
