Fredric March
Fredric March attended the University of WI, Madison and a social group using, who knows why, the name KKK asked March (then Fred Bickel) to join their honorary fraternity social group and he accepted. This group had no ties to the terrorist Klu Klux Klan (KKK) but why a harmless social group would use that name is puzzling. When the notorious KKK came to Madison's campus in 1923, the harmless group changed their name to "Tomas" for Truth. March had graduated and was trying to start a banking career as well as modeling. March did belong on the group planning to build a union on Lake Mendota which was completed in 1928. A theater within the union later proudly bore his name: The Fredric March Play Circle until this yearbook photo came to light in 2017. Students who didn't know March's work as an actor or as a man who stood for civil rights and social justice petitioned to have his name removed from the union theater which was done in 2021. Then, through further research, the truth of the matter was discovered. The university board of regents is not looking to rectify the matter at this time. March's two children were considering donating his two Oscars to his Alma Mater but will not do so after this insult to their father.
