 Today, we honor the life and legacy of David Graf, an actor whose comedic timing, dedication, and commitment to his craft made him a beloved figure in film and television. Best remembered as the fan-favorite ‘Officer Eugene Tackleberry’ in the Police Academy series, Graf brought to life a character defined by over-the-top intensity, obsessive discipline, and impeccable comic precision, endearing himself to audiences across generations.

Born in Lancaster, Ohio, Graf cultivated his passion foor performance early, graduating from Otterbein College in 1972 with a major in Theater. He honed his skills through television appearances on shows such as MASH*, The Dukes of Hazzard, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Quantum Leap, and The A-Team, building a foundation that showcased his versatility and dedication. His breakout role as Tackleberry in 1984’s Police Academy cemented his place in comedic cinema, and he reprised the role in all seven sequels, creating an enduring cultural icon.

Beyond the screen, Graf was deeply committed to the well-being of his peers, serving as a representative of the Screen Actors Guild and advocating tirelessly for fair treatment and improved working conditions for actors. His work behind the scenes reflected the same dedication and integrity that marked his performances.

David Graf passed away suddenly while attending a family wedding in Phoenix, Arizona, leaving behind his wife, Kathy, and two sons. His contributions to comedy, television, and the acting community endure, a testament to a life dedicated to laughter, professionalism, and the art of performance.
