Trivia of Anne Francis
Trivia of Anne Francis (16 September 1930 - 2 January 2011)
*Francis entered show business as a model at 5 years old to assist her family during the Great Depression. She made her Broadway debut at the age of 11 in Lady in The Dark (1941) and first film appearance in This Time for Keeps (1947) starred Esther Williams.
*Appeared with Clifton Webb as father-daughter in two different movies: Elopement (1951) and Dreamboat (1952).
*She co-starred with Spencer Tracy and Robert Ryan in film Bad Day at Bad Block (1955).During break, Anne Francis and Robert Ryan borrowed Spencer Tracy's car to get hamburgers. The next morning Tracy complained the car was parked crookedly. Francis also said she got the silent treatment because Tracy falsely suspected her of having an affair with Ryan. Francis got even during the shooting of the scene where she drives Tracy's character to Adobe Flats (home of the missing Japanese farmer). She gunned the car and took a big road bump at full speed, almost dumping her co-star in the road; despite this, Tracy stayed firmly in character and never removed his unusable left hand from his pocket. She later said Tracy became friendly with her again after that incident.
*The minidress worn by Anne Francis as Altaira in film Forbidden Planet (1956) was seen to be the first worn in a Hollywood movie, and resulted in the film being banned in Spain (it was not shown there until 1967), due to General Franco's dictatorship that considered it dirty and obscene that a woman wore a minidress to show off legs.
*Anne Francis and Walter Pidgeon appeared together four more times: Forbidden Planet (1956), The Rack (1956), Funny Girl (1968), and in an episode of the TV series The Reporter (1964) entitled Rachel's Mother (1964).
*Francis challenged female stereotypes in the television action-drama series Honey West (1965–1966), which she played a perky blonde private investigator who was as quick with body slams as witty one-liners.This popular series was historic in that it marked the first time a woman played the lead character in a network TV series with her character's name as the title.
*A real femme fatale. She began studying flying during the latter half of the 1960s, receiving her pilot's certificate soon after.
