KISS AND TELL
"KISS AND TELL" --- (1945)
MY THOUGHTS: I watched this movie because it has a (teen-aged) Shirley Temple in it. I was a huge fan of her earlier / most popular movies and I was interested in seeing her in a "grownup" role. It wasn't a bad movie, but it was a little bit disappointing. It just wasn't what I expected, as I thought it would be more entertaining and she would be more animated in the role. Still, I watched and enjoyed it for what it was. It was well-received by the critics at the time and her performance was noted as being very good. There was a sequel to the movie called "Almost a Bride", which came out in 1949, and I watched that one (and posted about it) as well. That film was her last movie appearance.
SYNOPSIS: "Teenage girls and best friends Corliss Archer and Mildred Pringle always manage to get themselves into trouble, with their respective parents placing the blame on the others' daughter. But when Mildred secretly elopes with Corliss' brother, Lenny, things get a bit more complicated. Mildred becomes pregnant, and a misunderstanding leads everyone to believe Corliss is the one expecting. However, Corliss intends to keep quiet about the marriage."
STARRING: Shirley Temple, Virginia Welles, Scott Elliott, Walter Abel, Catherine Alexander, Jerome Courtland, Robert Benchley, Mary Philips, Darryl Hickman, Porter Hall, Tom Tully and Kathryn Card.
SCREENPLAY: F. Hugh Herbert, from his own play.
DIRECTOR: Richard Wallace
